If you have listened to the R&R podcast you know that Rylee and I feel very strongly about the power of journaling. It is something I have been doing on and off for my whole life, but as I get older I found I have dove much deeper with what I write about. Journaling is a safe space for me, to be raw with my flaws and discover the root cause of what limits me. If you are just starting to add this practice into your life it may be difficult to figure out what to write about beyond your day to day life. Here are some prompts to help you get to know yourself a little better and help shift your perspective. Lets dig a little deeper together:
Write today's date but one year in the future. What does your life look like? Write it like it's the present moment.
What are your core beliefs? How did you come to believe this about yourself or the world? Did you come to believe this on your own or did someone else instill it in you? How do these beliefs positively or negatively effect you?
What do you truly love about yourself and why? What are your insecurities? What outside force or ideology made you feel this way about yourself?
What are you greatful for? Why are you greatful for these things?
What genuinely brings you joy when no one is watching?
How do you feel when you spend time by yourself? How do you spend that time?
Write what your childhood would look like if you had control over it.
What does unconditional love look like to you? How have you experienced this in your life?
How do you want to be treated by the people you love in your life? (Your parents, friends, love interests, etc)
What are boundaries you want to set but are afraid to?
I know how difficult it can be to answer these prompts. It can be uncomfortable to explore parts of yourself that you shy away from. I think in doing this, you get to really understand the inner workings of your mind and how it got to be that way. It highlights your strengths, and allows you to really love a lot of things about yourself that you didn't consider. It is so easy to pour energy into things that we don't like about ourselves. You can choose wether that energy is in self loathing or if it has action and allows you to learn. Love yourself for your strengths and your weaknesses. Remember that you have the power to change anything.
If you would like to share your responses to these prompts please email us we would love to hear what you have to say :)
